GRANTS TO WATCH

Housing North works to remove barriers for housing solutions and we understand that funding continues to be a barrier for ongoing housing development in our communities. We have worked this “Grants to Watch” living document to keep you informed about the latest grant opportunities and funding sources.

As an organization dedicated to making a positive impact in our community, we understand the significance of financial support in driving meaningful change. Through "Grants to Watch," we will regularly update and showcase grants that align with our mission of having Northwest Michigan be a place where families of all income levels can find homes that are safe and affordable.

Revitalization and Placemaking Place-based Infrastructure Grants (RAP): The Revitalization and Placemaking program provides access to gap financing for place-based infrastructure development, real estate rehabilitation and development, and public space improvements. Eligible applicants are individuals or entities working to rehabilitate vacant, underutilized, blighted and historic structures and the development of permanent place-based infrastructure associated with traditional downtowns, social-zones, outdoor dining and placed-based public spaces.

Rural Development Fund grants: The Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development provides grant opportunities to promote the sustainability of land-based industries and support infrastructure that benefits rural communities.

Michigan State Housing Development Authority (MSHDA)’s Housing Readiness Incentive (HRI) Grant Program: Eligible activities include costs associated with the adoption of land use policies, master plan updates, zoning text amendments, and similar actions to encourage increasing housing supply and affordability. Housing surveys, studies, or assessments are not eligible activities unless they are part of and result in adoption of land use policies, master plan updates, or zoning text amendments. The work may be performed by existing and/or contracted employees and/or third-party consultants. Up to 10 percent of the total grant requested may be used for administrative expenses.
